What can I do with my puppy to prevent problems and when should I start?
In an effort to prevent behavioral problems from getting out of hand when a new puppy arrives in a house we are initiating a new puppy head start program. This program will consist of a behaviorist going out to the client’s home and conducting a 1 hour behavioral consult. During the consult the behaviorist will examine the puppy and the manner in which the family interacts with the new puppy, the family will then be given exercises to do and advice for the family members to avoid common mishaps.
This program will be offered for dogs under the age of 6 months old and will only cost $89.00. For dogs over 6 months of age experiencing behavioral issues our initial consult runs $195.00 and takes approximately 2 hours. Simple problems can be solved in one visit with follow ups by email or telephone. More complex problems, real aggression or disorders usually require follow up visits which run $95.00 and last approximately 1 hour per follow up. We never charge for consults with the client’s veterinarian regarding follow up treatment or advice on long term medication.
The object of this program will be to prevent behavioral issues caused by human errors with new puppies as well as giving family member’s advice and a program to follow to stem problems caused prior to the puppy’s arrival in the home. Far too often we see dogs that reach critical levels abandoned to shelters or euthanized that could have been prevented if treated earlier in life. Instead of a family having to reach a critical point before reaching out for help we are attempting this program to make it easier for families to enjoy their dogs from an early age without having problems arise.
